A main tenant, French retailer Carrefour has opened its 18th hypermarket in Romania and secured 4,200 sqm in the commercial center, following an investment of EUR 10 million. By 2009, it plans to open two more units in Bucharest and other retail stores in Arad, Pitesti, Braila, Iasi, Constanta and Buzau.
Carrefour Romania registered a turnover of EUR 866 million in 2007, 42 percent up on 2006, and is planning a turnover exceeding EUR 1 billion in 2008 from its hypermarket activities, while for supermarkets, it hopes to generate EUR 120 million.
Meanwhile, Carrefour's traditional partner Altex has also opened a 3,500-sqm area Media Galaxy unit, comprising a portfolio of 30,000 products. This is the first Media Galaxy unit opened by Altex in Oradea, according to Adrian Urda, the company's operations manager. Altex registered a turnover of EUR 300 million in 2007, and is planning to make EUR 350 million in 2008, according to the company.
