Leroy Merlin Romania, a retailer specializing in construction, decoration, and gardening, will have a new CEO starting on June 23. Mathieu Bauduin, currently the North-East Regional Director within the company, will take over the leadership of the retailer from Frédéric Lamy, who has been the CEO of Leroy Merlin Romania for the past 9 years.

Mathieu Bauduin is 36 years old, married, and has a 6-year-old daughter. He has been living in Romania since last summer when he took over the position of North-East Regional Director at Leroy Merlin Romania, being responsible for the development and coordination of stores in Iași, Suceava, Bacău, Ploiești, Târgoviște, and Constanța.

Mathieu, a former professional athlete, began his career in retail after an injury, with an internship program during an international trade master’s program held at Auchan Le Havre, France, a retailer part of the ADEO group, alongside Leroy Merlin. He continued his journey with Auchan for 4 years as a TV Sales Manager and later as an Auchan Drive Manager for another 3 years. In 2014, he joined Leroy Merlin France, starting as a store sector manager and evolving steadily from Store Director in 2018 to Regional Director in 2021, last year arriving in Romania to be North-East Regional Director.

From June 23, he will replace Frédéric Lamy as CEO of Leroy Merlin, a professional with more than 14 years of experience within the ADEO Group, of which the last 9 as leader of Leroy Merlin Romania. Under his leadership, the retailer has expanded to a network of 21 stores nationwide, established a strong presence in e-commerce, and achieved sales of 700 million euros in 2022.

I am departing from ADEO Group after 14 years in the business, including 9 years spent as CEO of Leroy Merlin in Romania, where I had an exceptional human experience. I took over the company in 2014, we were 100 people, 1 store open, doubts about our long term presence here, and together with my teams we built a solid, profitable brand and a strong company with 21 stores, 3,500 employees and sales of 700 million euros in 2022. I am confident that my successor, Mathieu Bauduin, will take great care of the future of Leroy Merlin Romania. Our potential remains immense on the DIY market,” says Frédéric Lamy.

Frédéric will dedicate himself to personal projects in the entrepreneurship field.

I had the opportunity and the chance to come to Romania in order to continue the development of the company. My objective is to consolidate and ensure a sustainable progress based on the work accomplished by Frédéric and his teams over the past 9 years. Romania is a wonderful country with a strong culture and values similar to those of Leroy Merlin. Moreover, it is an important country for the ADEO map, with incredible potential in the DIY and renovation market. In this regard, I will focus on developing and supporting the skills of our teams, acceleration in the omnichannel area, expanding the network, and developing new partnerships.
We have wonderful prospects for development and for improving the comfort of Romanians and we will do this with care for the impact we have on people, communities and our  environment, the whole planet. The context, the environment, everything is changing and Leroy Merlin is always adapting. What remains stable is that we choose to put people first, their development, their safety, whether we are talking about customers, colleagues or partners. At Leroy Merlin we always think of development in its complexity, combining the economic, human and environmental areas. Everyone’s future depends on it,” stated Mathieu Bauduin.

Present on the local market since 2011, Leroy Merlin is today one of the leaders in the DIY retail sector, with a network of 21 stores in major cities across the country – after the opening of the one in Arad, which will take place in July – a team of over 3,500 employees, and a consolidated presence in the e-commerce area.
