Blue Air appoints CEO with over 25 years of international experience in low cost aviation to coordinate the relaunch of operations after the pandemic.

Oana Petrescu, President of the Board: „I am pleased to welcome Steven Greenway to Blue Air and to announce that he will take over the CEO mandate starting March 1st, 2022.

Steven has over 25 years of experience in the low-cost aviation industry, with key roles in Europe, as well as in the United States, Australia and Canada. He has an impressive track record in delivering the best customer experience and financial results for low cost airlines, and an integrated vision of the future of low-cost aviation.

During the last 6 months Steven has been an essential part of our team of experts that supported us to put together the last touches of our ambition to become a major low cost player in Europe, the company’s post-pandemic recovery plan and the strategy for financing this plan.”

Although these days the low cost demand in Europe is still at low levels due to travel restrictions imposed by various states, Blue Air prepares to return to operational levels similar to those before the pandemic starting June.

At the same time, Blue Air is aware that the coming months will be critical for how the European aviation market will be reshaped after the pandemic. The future of Blue Air in the coming years is relying on the discipline with which the company will mobilize during the coming months to operate a profitable summer season and to position itself as the first travel option of its passengers.

Steven Greenway, Blue Air CEO: “During the past 6 months I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the Blue Air team, understanding the history and I’m excited by the opportunity.  I look forward to joining the Blue Air team starting March 1st and continuing the turnaround plan that will see the airline establish itself as a leading Ultra Low Cost Career in Europe.

I’d also like to acknowledge all the work Oana Petrescu and the management team have done to steer Blue Air through the headwinds of the COVID-19 pandemic and to capitalize on the opportunities that have arisen.  I look forward to Oana’s continued support as Chairperson of the Board and as an advisor to me personally.”

“At this point, Blue Air has all the necessary ingredients for success: an incredibly passionate and professional team, a new fuel-efficient fleet of 737 MAX8 aircraft being introduced, continuing investment in IT and a great network of convenient airports and high demanded destinations.  We expect a robust performance starting this summer.”

During the last two years, Blue Air had to continuously adjust its level of operation, fleet size, computer systems, the network served as well as its teamwork style, while continuously investing in passenger experience, and now the company is ready to begin a new stage in its development.

With a team united by the passion for aviation which has proven its professionalism and dedication in the most complicated situations, and a fleet made up mainly of new and new generation aircraft, Blue Air offers its passengers a pleasant and eco-friendly flight experience. With the new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft to be delivered this year, Blue Air will become one of the companies with the newest fleets in Europe.

Blue Air operates a network of airports and business and leisure destinations designed to meet the most frequent requests of passengers and offer The Better Way to Fly experience: safe, comfortable, eco-friendly and always at affordable prices.

„Steven shares the same values with us and has the same ambitions. Moreover, his experience in international aviation and the support he has received from a number of investors interested in the Blue Air story further guarantee the pragmatism and feasibility of our plan.

I am confident that, with the continued support and trust of the entire Blue Air team, our passengers, our partners and the Romanian state, and with Steven leading the Blue Air team, we will succeed in becoming true to our slogan “the better way to fly”, and in transforming Blue Air into a solid and profitable low-cost company that competes on an equal footing with our large European competitors. Together we go further” adds Oana Petrescu, President of the Board, Blue Air.

Steven Greenway is an experienced C-Level executive with broad international exposure and extensive expertise in the airline (especially LCC), loyalty and travel industries with a track record of success in the development and delivery of innovative strategies and solutions that create high-performing, sustainable and profitable businesses. Steven has over 25 years of experience in the aviation industry, with key roles in Europe, as well as in the United States, Australia and Canada in success stories such as Swoop, WestJet, Scoot, SkyEurope, Virgin Blue, Virgin Atlantic or Qantas.
