What sets Dubi Katz and 2130 Labs Apart?

Dov Katz is married with three children and another one on the way and currently living in Ramat Hasharon. He has a lot of experience in leading companies and technology teams in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence and computer vision. Two of his favourite things are building teams and helping them grow to realise their professional potential.

Dov’s academic track began at Tel Aviv University in Israel with a bachelor’s degree in the combined track of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. During his bachelor’s degree studies he conducted research in the field of computer vision and machine learning. From there he went on to his masters in the United States. He studied for his master’s and doctorate in computer science at the University of Massachusetts (UMass Amherst). His research was focused on robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

“In my doctoral dissertation, I proposed a new way of thinking about autonomous systems. Rather than using the traditional sense-plan-act method, I advocated incorporating action into the robot’s detecting system. As a result, a robot that can “play” with objects to learn how it works”, Dov told us.

This new paradigm is known as Interactive Perception. Much research has been published in recent years that have used the approach to solve difficult issues including folding laundry, detecting items, and constructing models for instruments with degrees of freedom, among others.

In the last year Dubi Katz established his company 2130 Labs, that is based in the heart of Ramat Hasharon. There are currently 10 employees, and they plan to merge into a public company on the Canadian Stock Exchange in the next coming months.
