This enhances its cloud portfolio complementing the primary Bucharest location. This strategic decision recognises the rapidly growing demands of Romanian businesses.

We wanted to find out more about these services in an interview with Martin Ford, International CEO M247. He emphasised that the lifeblood of every company is its data and highlighted the critical need to protect it from loss, damage, attack, or theft and added: ‘The success of a company can be measured by the quality of their data.’

Business Review: What are the services you expect to be more in demand this year?

Martin Ford: Cloud has accelerating momentum in Romania and confidence of the advantages is rapidly growing. Cloud is a range of services with incremental benefits as you step through the portfolio. Our capability starts with our data centre infrastructure proposition and goes up from there. The demand for Back-up and Disaster Recovery is a natural progression bringing greater flexibility, scalability, and security to businesses. The technology is key, and we have adopted the industry leaders, but it is the management and remote operations which make the difference. Our professional and managed services resources are the key to realising the advantages of cloud migration. Our ability to hire, retain and develop the best people and have critical mass means we can relieve our customers of a noticeably big challenge.

BR: How has the accelerated digitisation influenced the demand for these services?

MF: Data is the lifeblood of companies and the utilization of data to drive businesses is still in its infancy. Interest in protecting it is increasing. We even have customers backing up to backup solutions in case of disaster, for added security. We are here to support companies in these endeavours, by developing an advanced infrastructure alongside the industry’s leading suppliers. No one can risk a single point of failure. Disaster Recovery and Back-up are minimum requirements. Separation, diversity, and real-time mirroring are all part of the equation.

BR: What are the main dangers to data?

MF: The typical response would be to talk about cyber-attacks and system related events. They are vital but to really secure one’s data, equal focus must go on the basics. ISO standards, robust processes, physical security to Data centres, business continuity plans, redundant hardware, diverse and separate networks. I could go on. The data is as secure as the weakest link in the chain. We have over 20 years of data centre experience, a global network, and an experienced team and we worry about data security every day to secure our customers business.

BR: Why did you choose to develop these services in a data centre in Brasov?

MF: Brasov is a great facility and meets the criteria our customer’s demand. It works in both directions enabling Bucharest or Brasov to be the primary or secondary location depending on the customer requirements. Brasov is also the Disaster Recovery facility for M247 International business – we believe in what we have done!

BR: Give us more details about the solution you will launch in Brasov.

MF: The project is at the beginning. Its modular design means we will scale our capabilities in line with growing customer demand and can take advantage of forward compatible developments through a co-tenanting architecture namely Microsoft Azure Pack and vmWare Virtual Director. We also offer redundant connectivity to Bucharest and Frankfurt. Dell, Cisco, and Juniper give us scalability and Veeam and Zerto technologies for replication.

BR: What other plans do you have for Romania?

MF: Organically, we will continue to add capabilities to our cloud portfolio but at this time, we are on a mission to deliver the benefits of Cloud to a broader community. We believe we can be the catalyst for our customers to gain business advantage through cloud adoption and in doing so earn the status of a trusted partner. This must be earnt through a laser focus and consistent service delivery that delights our customers. In the short term this is ambitious and challenging – no time for the distraction of ‘other plans’ right now!
