Cisco HyperFlex or how you can turn complexity into simplicity

Newsroom 12/12/2018 | 08:10

IT departments in all companies, regardless of size, are experiencing significant changes as their tasks expand and get complicated day by day. Compute and storage needs increase constantly, and the IT solutions become more complex.

Also, successive upgrades and evolutions of IT infrastructure architectures and designs have turned IT infrastructures into a conglomerate which is difficult to scale, optimize and manage.

If you need agile, efficient, and adaptive IT infrastructure, Cisco HyperFlex systems can help you achieve your goals.

Engineered on Cisco Unified Computing Systems™ (Cisco UCS®) technology, Cisco HyperFlex systems include rack and blade servers built with Intel® Xeon® processors, built-in networking, integrated management, and a high-performance and highly available software-defined data platform. You can mix and match blade and rack servers to tune your cluster with the right mix of processing and storage capacity for your workloads. Integrated management makes the system self-aware and self-integrating, automatically detecting changes to the hardware and incorporating new components automatically. The Cisco HyperFlex HX Data Platform makes your data instantly accessible and highly available, with always-on deduplication and compression that reduces your storage needs. In addition, the preinstalled VMware ESXi hypervisor accelerates both provisioning and scaling.

We engineered Cisco HyperFlex Systems to support a broader range of applications and workloads in the data center, private and hybrid clouds, remote locations, and edge-computing environments.  We thus offer the first hyperconverged platform that is designed as an end-to-end software-defined infrastructure. And according to Forrester and IDC market research companies, HyperFlex is already a leader on the hyperconverged infrastructure solutions market.

Our strengths are all about simplicity.

HyperFlex can be deployed and configured automatically in less than an hour. The deployment and configuration time required for the Cisco solution to be operational is up to 95 percent lower than other hyperconverged infrastructure solutions.

With Cisco HyperFlex systems, you have flexible pools of computing, network, and storage resources that are easy to deploy and maintain. You can bring the pay-asyou-grow economics of the cloud to your data center to support diverse application needs and help you propel business innovation.

In typical virtual server deployments, you manage virtual servers and storage systems independently. That can make it difficult to control your resources. Cisco HyperFlex systems remove these management silos, allowing you to view, manage, and optimize your virtual environments as well as your related storage systems all from a single interface that is well known to your IT admins.

Thus, we have achieved a total operating cost of our solution with up to 65% lower than that of other hyperconverged infrastructure solutions. The flexibility provided by HyperFlex when it comes to upgrading contributes to these important savings.

HyperFlex integrates advanced software-defined storage capabilities (online deduplication and compression, native snapshot, cloning, recovery, replication etc.) and provides data availability (redundancy storage) and disaster recovery (asynchronous native storage replication).

And the number of new features is steadily increasing. For example, with version 3.0 we extended HyperFlex support to Microsoft Hyper-V as a virtualization platform option. Also the HyperFlex FlexVolume driver supports persistent storage for Kubernetes managed containers, enabling development and deployment of cloud-native applications with Cisco Container Platform. Furthermore, you can burst container workloads from your on-premise cloud based on HyperFlex to various public clouds that offer Kubernetes based container services.

We also have implemented logical availability zones that help you to scale without compromising availability. Logical availability zones increase scalability and availability because they can automatically protect your data against multiple component and node failures.

With HyperFlex, we have managed to create a flexible and easy-to-operate product that can keep up with the evolution of any business needs, so no more blocked budgets for upgrades that are difficult to capitalize over time.

And, because we wanted HyperFlex to be available to all companies, regardless of size or industry, licensing costs are null when adding only extra processing capacity.
