The volume of wood mass collected in 2017 in Romania increased by 6.5 percent, from 17 million cubic meters to 18 million cubic meters of wood. During the period surveyed, the surface of the national forest fund remained approximately unchanged, data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) shows.

The national forest fund recorded an increase of approximately 0.1 percent due to the redevelopment works on pastures and the introduction to the forrest fund of lands and lands that are soon to be planted trees. The total surface covered by forests represents 97.6 percent of the total forest fund. The surface that was regenerated decreased by 1.5 percent.

The distribution of the forest fund across development regions shows that the central regions concentrate 19.3 percent of the entire forest fund, followed by the north east with 18.2 percent, west (16.1 percent), north west (15.2 percent, south-west-Oltenia (12.4 percent), south Muntenia (10 percent), south east (8.4 percent) and Bucharest -Ilfov (0.4 percent).

The biggest volume of wood mass was collected in the north east region, namely 29.1 percent of the forest mass harvested, followed by the central region with 19.9 percent.
