Vodafone Romania had 8,327,280 customers at December 31, 2011, at the end of the third quarter of the financial year 2011/2012.
This figure represents 3.1 percent less as compared to previous quarter, which was a result of the continuous disconnection of the inactive prepaid SIMs from the company’s customer base.
“Our prepaid SIM numbers are significantly lower as we stopped all the activities of free SIM distribution which artificially inflated the customer base. Going forward, we will continue to make sure that we concentrate on giving more value to our customers rather than artificially inflating customer numbers,” said Inaki Berroeta, CEO Vodafone Romania.
The company made up for the loss in consumers on the mobile data side, where there is a strong growth in both the customer data base and revenues pertaining to this segment. Thus, the operator’s mobile Internet customer base grew by 77 percent quarter-to-quarter and by 75 percent year-on-year.
Also, revenues from mobile internet increased by 33 percent quarter to quarter, and by 58 percent year on year.
“We see a positive trend in our performance overall and a strong data growth, both in customers and revenue. The launch of the new MEGA portfolio including mobile Internet delivered really good value to our customers and that contributed to the data growth. Delivering the best value to Vodafone customers remains our priority”, said Berroeta.
Vodafone’s mobile average revenue per user was EUR 7.3 for the quarter ended December 31, 2011, which represents a growth of 1.4 percent as compared to previous quarter and of 9.3 percent year on year.
At December 31, 2011, contract subscribers accounted for 41 percent and prepaid for 59 percent of Vodafone Romania’s total customer base.
