UPC Romania will broadcast 3D content, being the first telecom operator that uses this format.

The launch of this technology is the result of investments UPC made in the modernization of the network over the past two years.

The operator also announced it will broadcast in 3D format the Roland Garros tennis tournament which will take place between May 22 and June 5, after it acquired from Eurosport the exclusive broadcasting rights.

The 3D programs can be seen on a TV set that is compatible with the new format.

UPC also launched the 3D service as part of packages such as Profesionist 3D and Olimpic 3D, which provide TV, internet and telephony services, along with an HD media box or DVR HD. The two packages can be acquired at a price of 55 lei (no VAT) and 90 lei (no VAT).

According to a recent study from Gfk, quoted by UPC, the 3D market in Romania will see a boost this year due to increased interest. In fact, Romania is following trends on the European market where 3D television has a significant success.

UPC Romania had a total of 1.14 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter.

The main competitors of UPC are RCS&RDS and Romtelecom.
