Technology start-up Uber will launch its app in a second Romanian city after starting operations in Bucharest last year.
The company will launch the UberX service in Cluj-Napoca in the first week of August.
Nicoleta Schroeder, the general manager of Uber Romania, said that the city in Transylvania was selected due to growing interest from people that downloaded the app, but also from persons that wanted to become driver partners.
“The Uber application has already been downloaded and opened by thousands of people in Cluj. We have received hundreds of messages from drivers who want to become partners,” said the head of Uber Romania.

Schroeder had told BR in an interview this spring that the company was looking to make its car-hailing app available In Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Iasi.
The company said it will announce soon the exact launch date in the second city, which it dubbed as the Romanian Silicon Valley.
According to a survey carried out in Bucharest, 37 percent of the partner drivers are entrepreneurs or freelancers. Furthermore, 31 percent of them have full time jobs, while 22 percent are unemployed.
