Transparency International Romania issued an official statement condemning the violence on the streets and urging the authorities to be more open to dialogue.

“General corruption that drained public resources and the lack of transparency of the state were the main causes that led to the degradation in the quality of life and generated the current demonstrations all over the country. The arbitrary way of establishing public policies had as effect the economic degradation of the country and the violation of the rule of law,” according to Transparency International Romania.

Transparency International Romania urged local authorities to be open to dialogue in order to reach solutions to re-establish social order.

“Public policies that lack transparence in order to favor interest groups can no longer ve covered via image operations or intimidation of the civil society or mass-media, and can lead to social unrest, popular discontent, and demonstrations that can be avoided via an open and honest dialogue,” says the press release.
