Tourism agencies’ sales for May 1 holiday up by 12 pct this year

The sales of tourism agencies for May 1 holiday went up by 12 percent this year compared with 2016 and 42 percent of the tourists acquired offers for the Romanian seaside, according to a release of the National Association of Tourism Agencies (ANAT) from Tuesday.

Mamaia and Vama Veche resorts, as well as Valea Prahovei and Baile Felix attracted the most tourists, who acquired packages of two nights with a cost between RON 135 and RON 800/person from the tourism agencies, depending on the chosen hotel.

The ANAT data show that on seaside, where 70-80 percent of the hotels were opened on May 1, the occupancy level was 100 percent in Mamaia and Vama Veche, followed by Neptun and Mangalia and the holiday packages were acquired since the beginning of the launch.

„The sales for the May 1 holiday were higher by 12 percent compared with 2016, as 42 percent of the tourists that chose Romania for the May 1 holiday acquired packaged for the Romanian seaside. Overall, the tourism agencies and individually, the seaside attracted over 40,000 persons with this occasion,” says the release.

On SPA segment, Baile Felix resort registered the highest number of tourists, followed by Calimanesti-Caciulata and Sovata and on Valea Prahovei the occupancy level was 75-80 percent, as tourists preferred Sinaia and Busteni resorts.

Over 10,000 tourists chose the Bulgarian resorts, the SPA resorts from Hungary or European capitals, for three-four day-holidays, with a value of EUR 120 – EUR 500/person and Antalya, Dubai or Sharm El Sheikh, for a week, starting from EUR 490/person.

The Romanian seaside is the main destination also for the summer holiday, according to the Association data at Early Booking end, which show a high number of bookings.

The internal tourism might registered a growth of at least 20 percent this year, according to Alin Burcea, president of ANAT.
