The Natural History Museum Grigore Antipa to reopen gates in April

The Natural History Museum Grigore Antipa will reopen its gates to the general public in April, with a few months’ delay to the initial term for the finalization of the modernization works. The museum had closed in January 2009.

The delay seems to have occurred on account of some issues regarding the preservation of the exhibits, as well as some problems with the firm winning the auction firm, as explained officials from the ministry of culture quoted in the media. The modernization works have reportedly amounted to EUR 13 million, resulting from a loan from the Council of Europe development bank and from state funds.

The Antipa museum is located on Pavel Kiseleff Boulevard, no. 1. The museum originates in the National Museum of Natural History and Antiquities of Bucharest, founded on the 3rd of November 1834 by the Prince Alexandru Ghica. The Natural History Museum Museum has a rich and diversified patrimony, amounting to almost 2 million specimens (some of them of microscopic size), grouped in over 130 types of collections.
