The Romanian Public Health Ministry will coordinate the national health insurance body CNAS, according to Ritli Ladislau, the newly appointed Health minister. CNAS is responsible for the largest distribution of funding for health services and will remain autonomous, added Ladislau. The government also approved an additional fund injection of RON 150 million for health programs.
The Health minister will coordinate CNAS in applying the governmental healthcare schemes, correlating the national health policies of the public Healthcare Ministry with the financial obligations. In addition, the ministry will approve the budget of the national health insurance body and will supervise its activity.
CNAS will also issue quarterly activity reports to its coordinator. Moreover, the Health Ministry will control national medication tenders, needed for supplying governmental health programs and the local healthcare insurance bodies. The minister will preside over the meetings of the CNAS board, but will not hold a voting right.
