The government has added another RON 40 million to support farms that have lost their pigs due to African swine fever and to combat the spread of the virus. The total amount allocated towards compensating pig farms has reached RON 200 million.

According to Agriculture Minister Petre Daea, there are 10 affected counties and 121,012 pigs have been sacrificed.

Of the total number of 2,500 UATs (Territorial Administrative Units) in the counties affected by the swine fever, in Bihor county 8 out of 531 UATs were affected (1.5 percent).

In Satu-Mare, 4 out of 285 UATs are affected (1.4 percent). In Salaj county, the outbreak affected wild boars, and not domestic pigs. In Braila, swine fever was found in 24 out of 184 territorial units, which means 13 percent, in Constanta it was found in 27 out of 259 UATs (10.4 percent), and 74 of 184 were affected in Tulcea (40.2 percent).

The latest statistics on the evolution of swine fever shows that the number of slaughtered pigs will exceed 350,000 after the confirmation of outbreaks in Tulcea and Braila counties, and the number of vacated jobs will be in the hundreds.

After Carniprod in Tulcea opened the black list with 45,000 killed pigs and 150 disbanded jobs, confirmation of outbreaks in Braila will add 200,000 to the number of killed pigs and 600 jobs will be lost.
