Newsroom 14/03/2014 | 15:44

The coming weekend will be filled with special events organised in honor of St. Patrick’s Day (monday, March 17). Here are some of the highlights.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday

The Ireland Romania Network Association invites you to the special St. Patrick’s Day Parade which will take place in downtown Bucharest between 15.00 and 17.00. Traffic will be restricted as a result starting with Kisseleff Road, Piata Victoriei and Calea Victoriei, all the way to George Enescu Square.

The parade will include floats designed with Ireland’s and Romania’s national colors along with 150 Irish, Bulgarian and Romanian dancers and musicians.

“Last year, according to reports from the authorities, over 8,000 people took part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Because people seemed to enjoy themselves so much, we expect the number to double this year”, according to John Long, president of the IRN.

John Long and deputy mayor Marcel Nicolescu will assist Gerard Corr, Ireland’s Ambassador in Bucharest, in kicking off the parade.

“We want to celebrate joy, friendship and well-being through this parade for Romanians, Irtish and all the people that know how to enjoy life. We hope we will have many families with children join us. This is our second parade and we hope to transform it into a lovely tradition that will bring many tourists in Bucharest in the future”, John Lang added.

The parade will conclude with a traditional irish dance show in George Enescu Square. Participants will also be able to enjoy a brown beer tasting in Walter Maracineanu square.
