Telecom operators must provide investment and acquisition figures to ANCOM from now on

Telecom operators will have to report to the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) more detailed data regarding their activity on the Romanian market, including figures on investments and the value of acquisitions, starting this year, according to the regulator.

The authority decided to modify the statistic indexes taking into account factors such as the telecom trends on the Romanian and international market, the appearance of new technologies and services as well as with the intention to clarify some facts about statistic indicators.

Thus, providers of landline telephony services will be compelled to report the number of subscribers, telephony lines and revenues from subscriptions. The data will be presented function of the category of clients (residential or business customers), the areas where the lines have been installed (urban or rural), as well as the technologies of access.

Traffic and related revenues will also be reported function of the category of clients who generated them (residential or business customers). All suppliers of landline services be compelled to report the number of subscribed households, irrespective of whether they provide TV, internet or fixed telephony. They must also report the degree of coverage of the population and territory with terrestrial radio analogue networks such as DVB-T and WiMax.

Since the Authority must measure the evolution of the development of internet access services, ANCOM required providers of landline internet to report the number of internet connections as falling into five speed categories.

Providers of mobile telephony services will report the degree of coverage of the population and territory depending on the types of networks used such as GSM, UMTS, or CDMA. Telecom operators will also have to report the numbers of valid and active prepay cards.

Statistic data regarding mobile internet will be reported separately function of the device used for connection- either mobile handsets or modems, cards or USB, whether the connection was made via laptop, pC or other similar device. Repirts will also take into account the technologies for connection such as GSM/GPRS, EDGE, 3G, LTE, CDMA and EV-DO.
