Romanian air carrier Tarom has reported EUR 78.9 million losses for last year, as passenger purchase power decreased and operational costs went up. Fuel costs went up 29 percent compared to the previous year, the equivalent of EUR 19 million. The Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption in April 2010 cost EUR 4.87 in lost revenue. At the same time, the RON devaluation against the USD was another factor contributing to these results. Total revenues thus were of EUR 305.9 million, while total expenses stood at EUR 384.9 million.

Compared to 2009, Tarom total revenues increased by 15 percent, while the net turnover grew by 13 percent, following a 23.6 percent increase in the number of passengers in the previous year. In 2010, Tarom flew 1.4 million passengers on regular external routes, 578,195 passengers on internal routes and 148,085 passengers in charter routes.
