Businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu (in picture) was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for blackmail, according to a sentence passed by the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The sentence is definitive.

At the same time, his accomplice Ilie Cezar also received 5 months of imprisonment for the same crime.

Between March and April last year, the two allegedly forced Sebastian Ghita to pay up EUR 150,000 or to accept to end a contract threatening to harm him and his family as well as prejudice his public image.

Vintu and Ghita were involved in a conflict regarding the Realitatea Media group. Vintu used to be the owner of the group, which he later sold to businessman Elan Schwartzenberg, while Sebastian Ghita had signed a contract for the management of the television channel.

Subsequently, Vintu sold Realitatea TV to businessman Elan Schwartzenberg while Ghita took a part of the existing employees and created a new TV channel, Romania TV.
