Cinemax, the largest multiplex cinema chain in Slovakia, announces its entry on the Romanian market and the opening of its first cinemas in Bucharest and Brasov.

Created in 2006, Cinemax offers film distribution services currently reaching a network of 13 multiplex cinemas in 12 Slovak towns, totaling 65 screens and over 11,000 seats. The expansion of its operations continues today by announcing for the first time its partnerships with Veranda Mall Bucharest and AFI Brasov, the shopping centers where they will open their first cinemas in Romania.

“The new multiplexes will open in early 2019 with state-of-the-art technology and provide a new experience for customers, giving them extra space between chairs and VIP spaces. In terms of investments, we’re looking at about EUR 4 million in both locations. These locations are a first step towards the development of our brand in Romania, where we will expand our network and we will seek to grow as much market share as possible,” said Michal Drobny, general manager of the company.

Cinemax and its affiliated company for cinematic advertising in Slovakia are owned by Continental Film, a private-owned family business that was set up in 1997.

“Today we have 65 cinema halls in Slovakia and we intend to double this number by 2020. Just to get an idea of our intentions, we want to reach 30 screens in Romania in the coming years, and already have partnership contracts signed with several local malls. But we will be able to offer more details at the right time,” Drobny concluded.

Both cinemas will have a total area of 5,300 sqm, a capacity of over 2,000 seats and 24 screens in total.
