Sector 1 Mayor announces overpass construction to improve urban mobility

On July 30th, Sector 1 Mayor, Clotilde Armand, announced the upcoming construction of an overpass connecting Şoseaua Nordului with Elena Văcărescu Street.

During its meeting on July 26, 2023, the Sector 1 Local Council approved a resolution, requesting the Bucharest General Council to transfer the management of Şoseaua Nordului and Elena Văcărescu Street. The purpose of this transfer is to facilitate the construction of the overpass that will link the two roads. Currently, both Şoseaua Nordului and Elena Văcărescu Street are managed by the Bucharest General Council through the Street Administration.

“The two thoroughfares are located in a rapidly developing area, where numerous offices and residences have been constructed, leading to increasing pressure from transit. During peak hours, the traffic becomes a real nightmare. Our solution is to connect the two thoroughfares with an overpass to improve urban mobility and streamline traffic flow. This overpass will be part of the median ring road in the northern part of the capital and will involve the development of the roadway, sidewalks, street lighting and the rerouting/relocation of utility networks,” says the Mayor. “We want to finance the construction of the overpass from the local budget of Sector 1 and/or from other legally established funds.”

The planned overpass is part of the median circulation ring in the Northern area of the Capital. The construction will involve various elements such as road surface arrangements, sidewalks, public lighting, and the diversion or relocation of utility networks.
