Sebastian Ghita will remain free after the Serbian state refusal to extradite him to Romania. The request of the Justice Ministry from Romania was denied by the Serbian High Court of Justice according to the Serbian press, cited by Digi24. The reason for refusal is that Ghita is politically persecuted.
The High Court of Justice also decided that Ghita is eligible for political asylum but the final decision will be taken by the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Sebastian Ghita was detained by the Serbia police one year ago and the Romanian Ministry of Justice asked his extradition. He contested the request made by Romania saying that he is politically persecuted.
He has been sued in five criminal cases and he is prosecuted in other two cases. The prosecutors asked for sentence in jail in two cases.
