The telecom regulating authority has applied a RON 200,000 ( (nearly EUR 45,000) fine to Romtelecom for not fulfilling the obligations stipulated in the mobile communications license in the frequencies 410-415/420-425 MHz.

According to the obligations assumed by Romtelecom, the company should have installed and run 1,242 base stations by the end of the first stage, ended December 31, 2010, but following ANCOM’s controls, it was found that only 788 were installed in fact at that date,” shows the telecom regulating authority in a press release.

Overall, by December 31, 2013, Romtelecom must have installed a total of 1,292 base stations.

Romtelecom was granted the license in 2008, for a 10 year period, following a public bidding, and paid EUR 1 million for usage rights. The license is valid until September 23, 2018.
