The unemployment rate in Romania was 7.2 percent in the third quarter of this year, up 0.3 percent from the same period of 2010, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS) that uses International Labour Organization standards.
In the same quarter, the occupancy rate for people aged between 15 and 64 years old was 59.1 percent, down 1.1 percent from Q3 2010. For people aged between 20-64 years old, the rate was 63.3 percent, which is 6.7 percent below the Europe 2020 targets assumed by Romania.
In the third quarter, the active population of Romania was 9.9 million, out of which 718,000 were unemployed. The youth unemployment rate reached 24.1 percent.
Romania has 6.1 million employees according to INS, which also includes people working in the armed forces, in the informal sector or illegally.
