The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has announced that the Romanian Embassy in the UK is looking to see if any Romanian citizen was injured following the explosion that took place on Monday evening in Manchester, at the end of a concert of US pop artist Ariana Grande.

“The diplomatic mission of Romania has kicked off in an emergency regime operations with local authorities to find out information about the conditions in which the incident was produced, as well as to find the nationality of the victims. There is an ongoing investigation of British authorities over this incident,” said the MAE, adding that it would continue to monitor the situation and answer any requests. The institution expressed its deep regret and condolences for the persons killed in the attack.

According to British authorities, last night’s incident is treated as a terrorist attack. People say they heard a huge blast when they were leaving the concert.

Ian Hopkins, Greater Manchester chief constable, said that “So far 19 people have been confirmed dead with around 50 others injured.”

Al Jazeera pointed out that if confirmed, the Manchester attack would be the deadliest attack on Britain since four men killed 52 people in suicide bombings on London’s transport system in July 2005.
