The internet services penetration rate in Romania reached 89 percent and the connectivity rate stands at around 60 percent, according to the president of  the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), Catalin Marinescu.

„From the services quality point of view, Romania is on the first place and this is due to some historical work conditions of the communications networks from Romania. With the old networks, the ones made of copper, underdeveloped, the only alternative of the operators was to develop their own networks of very good quality. They started directly with optical fiber and now in Romania the main Internet services supplier is an alternative operator, the former state monopolistic operator. This explains why we have very good quality. On the other hand, the fixed Internet penetration is probably not sufficient. There is penetration of 89 percent and the connectivity represents 60 percent,” said Marinescu.

He also added that the broadband service in Romania is available in more places than the share of the persons who connect to these networks.

„The broadband market is deregulated, free, and this thing was seen. We saw that the operators got associated to develop their own networks, whether it’s about 4G networks or optic fiber. It’s important because in Romania we can’t afford to develop rich broadband networks,”  said Marinescu, according to Agerpres newswire.
