Ben Jager, Romania’s Honorary Consul in The Netherlands, says that houses in Romania have attractive prices and that Transylvania is a region with particular interest for potential buyers.

“The acquisition of a second home – or a holiday house – is a common thing in The Netherlands, the preferred destination until now by the Dutch people being the traditional ones. But, the interest for the Eastern Europe and the new destinations, the unexplored ones, where is not a mass tourism, is rising. Moreover, the Romanian economic growth in 2016 and the financial prognosis for 2017 rose an enthusiasm wave towards the investments in the area. The price of the Romanian properties are under the level of those in the countries that benefit of a similar climate and socio-economic conditions,” said Jager.

Taking in account the fact that the Brasov County took second place at the beginning of the year in Romania, as a number of foreign tourists, according to the public data offered by the National Statistics Institute (INS), the investment in a holiday house in that area would be a very profitable one. A luxury holiday villa can be hired for EUR 150-250 per night, depending on the capacity and the facilities it offers.

“This year, the spring edition of the Utrecht Fair was visited by 8,000 persons, from which 2,000 persons participated in the poll realized by the fair’s organizers. From the people interviewed, 60 percent said they intend to buy a house both for the personal use, but also in order to hire it and 57 percent said they will be making an acquisition during a year time. The medium budget the Dutch have for a holiday house is EUR 260,000,” said Gerard Doedee, representative of the Valley21 project investors’ group, who took part at Second Home Fair, the event specialized on the holiday houses’ segment that took place in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

The Dutch investments in Romania amount to EUR 8.5 billion. Alongside Germany and Austria, The Netherlands maintained itself in the last six years in the top of the foreign investors in Romania, with a cumulated margin of 50 percent from the total.

An EUR 15 million investment, the Valley21 project is developed in the region Buzau Valley, Brasov County, by a group of Dutch and Romanian investors, in public-private partnership with the local authorities.
