Daniel Constantin, the current deputy PM and minister of Environment, will be replaced after he lost the political support of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), said PM Sorin Grindeanu on Monday.

Constantin is going to leave the government and his roles will be taken over by Gratiela Gavrilescu, the current minister for the relation with Parliament. Gavrilescu worked in the past as minister of environment.

“ALDE members told  us of the political decision they took at a leadership level. I got the political decision, this being a political government,” said Grindeanu.

Viorel Ilie, the leader of the group of ALDE senators, will be the new minister for the relation with Parliament, according to the decision of the party led by Constantin and Calin Popescu-Tariceanu.

Constantin lost political support following a conflict with Tariceanu. The two co-chairs of ALDE have accused each other of betrayal. It is not clear at this moment what will happen with the political career of Constantin, with some media sources claiming that he could create a new party with ex-PM Victor Ponta.

The changes in the government’s structure will have to be approved by president Klaus Iohannis. The other deputy PM in the current cabinet is Sevil Shhaideh, who is also the minister of development.

The goverment went through a reshuffle in late February.
