Romania’s energy system needs investments of billions of euros, depending on the targets agreed with the European Union, Advisor Radu Dudau said at the Focus Energetic conference.

According to the Dudau, the national energy system “needs investments of billions of euros in production, transport infrastructure, distribution, consumption, energy efficiency and so on. We want to come up with specific numbers, according to several scenarios,Dudau said. Accordingly, consultants are analyzing three scenarios, taking into account the goals of the energy policy taken on by Romania at European level.

A scenario is considering the situation in which, in 2020, Romania’s obligations in terms of energy policies will ened. The main scenario is that of alignment to European obligations, but we also have an ambitious scenario that leaves space for clean energy and decarbonisation, to see what the costs will be,” Dudau said. According to him, after the scenarios will be analyzed, the team that develops the strategy will establish an optimal mix of energy sources for Romania in terms of costs.

Dudau also said that the draft of the new law will be open for public debate at the beginning of October, so that by the end of the month there will be a final document. The consortium comprising EY (formerly known as Ernst&Young) and E3 Modelling PC won the auction for the quantitative modelling of data that will be part of the future Energy Strategy of Romania 2016-2030.
