Romania’s construction works up 1.2 pct y/y in May despite decrease in residential buildings

The construction works in Romania recovered in May, increasing by 1.2 percent year-on-year, despite a sharp decline of residential buildings sector, official data show.

In April, the construction works dropped by 4.1 percent year-on-year, mainly due to a sharp decline of residential building.

Residential buildings declined by 29.1 percent year-on-year in May, while engineering constructions – including government-financed roads and bridges works – increased by 21.4 percent. Non-residential buildings works decreased by 4.5 percent year-on-year.

Capital repairs sector grew by 24.9 percent year-on-year, maintenance and current repairs rose by 9.4 percent, while new constructions sector declined by 4.1 percent compared with May 2017.

Compared with April, construction works rose by 2.9 percent in seasonally adjusted series.

In the first five months of this year, construction works in Romania declined by 1.3 percent year-on-year, according to official data.
