The Competition Council, the anti-trust watchdog, has issued fines totaling EUR 53.9 million last year for 202 entities in Romania.

The institution said in its annual report that the number of companies it fined last year was up 3.8 fold compared to 2014.

Last year, the organization has concluded 21 investigations regarding a possible breach of competition legislation.

“But the biggest part of the investigations regarding a possible breach of competition legislation that were finished last year were represented by vertical anti-trust deal. Four of these investigations focused on the breach of national and EU legislation. The average duration of investigations into the possible breach of competition legislation was 4.98 years,” said the competition watchdog.
