Romania’s Black Friday 2017 attracted buyers from 70 countries, says PayU | What were the biggest orders

In the day when Romanian retailers said they had the biggest discounts from the year under the Black Friday concept, payment processor PayU said it handled over 264,000 online transactions worth over RON 160 million, up 50 percent compared to the previous year.

The biggest e-commerce players in Romania promoted Black Friday discounts on November 17.

PayU said that it recorded payments from over 70 countries for retailers based in Romania. Its data cover the November 16-20 period.

Speaking about the local e-commerce players, Marius Costin, country manager PayU Romania, said that “if they are ready to deliver for Black Friday in countries such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan they should really consider to expand abroad.”

The most popular categories for Romanian shoppers were IT&C, fashion and eTail, which includes furniture, toys, wines and food products.

One Black Friday shopper paid RON 37,400 for a car, this being the biggest single transaction processed by PayU.

The Black Friday was initiated in Romania by eMAG in 2011.
