During the first five months of the year there were 111,590 second hand cars registered in Romania, with 28.2 percent of them (31,500) being of the Volkswagen brand, according to the Department of Driving License and Automotive Registry (DRPCIV).
In May alone from a total of about 22,900 second hand cars over 6,450 units were Volkswagen, a 26.1 percent advance over May 2015, when about 5,100 Volkswagen cars were registered.
Romania saw a surge in second hand registrations both over the first five months (up 21.1 percent y-o-y) and when comparing May 2016 to the same month of last year (up 25.1 percent).
Next in line in terms of preferences in May were Opel (3,700 units, up 15.7 percent), Ford (2,595 units, up 23.9 percent), BMW (1,763 units, up 36.1 percent), Audi (1,771 units, up 37.5 percent), Skoda (1,092 units, up 30.7 percent), Renault (947 units, up 18.3 percent) and Mercedes-Benz (924 units, up 40.2 percent).
According to DRPCIV statistics, Romania’s car park totaled 6.6 million units at the end of 2015, a 5.27 percent rise over the previous year, of which 5.15 million units were passenger cars (up 5.04 percent over 2014). Of the registered passenger cars, 302,054 were 0 to 2 years old (52.7 percent above the levels in 2014).
In Bucharest there were 1.19 million cars listed at the end of December 2015, of which 956,664 were passenger cars.
Most car owners preferred Diesel motors (3.48 million), while 2.75 million cars ran on gasoline.
