The volume of retail trade in Romania registered the third largest fall in Europe at 1.1 percent in June versus May, while the EU 27 member states lost 0.3 percent in the same period, according to Eurostat, the statistics office of the EU.
Total retail trade rose in seven countries, fell in eleven and remained stable in Denmark, Lithuania and Poland. The highest growth rates were registered in Slovenia, Latvia and Luxembourg with 2.4 percent, 2.1 percent and 1.5 percent.
Romania ranks third on the largest decreases after Ireland and the UK, where retail trade fell by 2.2 percent and 1.7 percent. However, Romanian retail trade grew by 3.9 percent year on year in June against the same period of last year.
Retail trade of food, drinks and tobacco fell by 1 percent in the euro zone and the EU 27. The non-food sector decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro zone and remained stable in the EU 27.
