Romanian president Traian Basescu visits US to sign bilateral agreements

Romanian president Traian Basescu left today for a visit in the United States dedicated to signing several bilateral agreements. The Romanian head of state is accompanied in his visit by the head of the General Staff, the Defense and Foreign Affairs ministers, directors of the Romanian information services SIE and SRI, and by the US ambassador to Bucharest.

According to US publication The Hill, Basescu will be meeting US vice president Joe Biden. President Obama is traveling today to Columbus, Ohio to promote the American Jobs act, and Wednesday to Raleigh-Durham to promote the same act.

The US Defense secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Romanian Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconchi will sign today the bilateral agreement concerning the set up of the US anti-missile defense shield in Romania. The ceremony will take place at the State Department in Washington.
