Romanian Post can become mobile virtual network operator, says state secretary

The extensive territorial coverage of the Romanian Post qualifies the institution to become mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), as stated by Marius Fecioru, state secretary within the Ministry of Communications.

MVNO can supply mobile communications without having a license for using radio spectrum and without owning, totally or partially, the infrastructure required for supplying these services.

“The Romanian Post has at the moment a massive territorial presence, even after the personnel cuts made in agreement with the International Monetary Fund. The Romanian Post has the market that could justify the opening of such a mobile virtual network operator, the same as the National Radio-communications Service.

In the future, mobile telephony operators may be under the obligation to accept also MVNO in their networks, as stated by representatives of telecom regulator ANCOM.
