Romanian Post appoints Andrei Stanescu as interim General Director

Following the nomination of Alexandru Petrescu for the position of Ministry of Economy, the Romanian Post received its interim General Director in Andrei Stanescu. Previously, Stanescu was the head of the legal, control and human resources department within the Romanian Post.

Petrescu stepped down from his position on January 4. Andrei Stanescu is also the head of the Board of the Romanian Post and a representative of Romfilatelia.

Previously, Stanescu was an advisor with the Ministry of European Funds and an advisor to the Minister of Finance. He also held several positions at the Victoria Palace.

The new Minister of Economy, Alexandru Petrescu, had served since since 2014 as the General Director and member of the Administration Council of the National Council of the Romanian Post and since 2015 as the head of the Administration Council of the Romanian railway operator S.N.C.F.R. Calatori S.A.

Previously, he was the deputy head of Raphaels Bank, London, United Kingdom and held the position of Director for Europe – Business Development at Advanced Payment Solutions Ltd, London UK & Europe and several other roles in the UK banking sector.

A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Petrescu served as the deputy head PSD’s Diaspora organization. According to local newspaper Evenimentul Zilei, in 2015 he received a RON 135,418 bonus, despite the fact that the Romanian Post had posted losses. He was sworn-in as the Minister of Economy on 4 January 2017.
