The Romanian employees believe they deserve incomes by RON 1,000 higher than they get now and they want the average salary to start from RON 2,844, according to a study made by an online recruiting platform.

„The incomes’ expectations of Romanian employees increased in the last years, in the context of favorable economic evolutions that led to the consumption increase, including to the standard of living. Thus, if in 2016 a Romanian would have expected to be hired on an average salary of RON 2,550, now the expectations start from at least RON 2,844. Moreover, the surveyed persons believe they would deserve salaries by 40 percent higher than the one from their current jobs. On average, the difference between the current salary and the one considered appropriate at the market level is higher than RON 1,000,” says the study.

Also, the study shows that the young people believe they should earn 50 percent more than they do now. The biggest differences are among the young people under 24 years who currently have an average salary of approximately RON 1,500, but they think that an appropriate salary for the current position would be by 50 percent higher.

On the other hand, the lowest gaps between the current salaries and the ones considered appropriate are registered among respondents between 35-35 years, considering they should earn by 33 percent more than they do now.

„The increase in income expectations is explained on one hand by the favorable economic context: the economic increase that determined the increase in the number of jobs, and on the other hand the fact that most of the salaries from the public sector put pressure and create new expectations also in private sector,” says Bogdan Badea, head of sales eJobs.

At the same time, employees expect that the change in jobs to bring also an increase in salary, according to eJobs survey. However, they say they would accept to change the job if the offer would be of at least RON 500 in addition to the current salary.
