Romanian directors Cristian Mungiu and Dan Chisu enter the Vukovar Film Festival competition

Cristian Mungiu’s “Beyond the hills” movie and Dan Chisu’s “The bear” movie have been selected to represent Romania at the Vukovar International Film Festival, which will take place between August 22-26 in Croatia.

This year, the movie competition from Vukovar will include countries such as Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Ukraine, as well as Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Two other Romanian movies, “Superman, Spiderman or Batman”, directed by Tudor Giurgiu and “Our school” documentary directed by Mona Nicoara, were included in the the short-up section of the competition.

The nominated movies have been already awarded at international film festivals in both Europe and United States. Cristian Mungiu’s movie “Beyond the hills” already won several awards, the latest one at Cannes Film Festival 2012 for Best Actress and Best Screenplay. Also, Tudor Giurgiu, the director of the Romanian short film “Superman, Spiderman or Batman,” received the best short movie award at the KALIBER35 Munich International Short Film Festival. The documentary “Our school” received Silverdocs Documentary Festival 2011. – Grand Jury Prize for Best US Feature.
