Ukraine and Romania have signed a cooperation agreement on the development of 5G, the restoration of telecommunications networks and increasing their sustainability, announced Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation.
“We agreed on the first steps — increasing the stability of Ukrainian internet networks, developing 5G corridors between the borders of Ukraine and Romania, and Ukraine’s participation in EU financial support programmes,” Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, said on Telegram.
Fedorov also thanked Bogdan-Gruia Ivan, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania, for the cooperation and noted that from now on, both countries will implement joint projects with the financial support of the EU.
In 2023, the World Bank estimated that Ukraine would need USD 3.1 billion for short-term telecom reconstruction in Kiev and bordering regions.
In December 2023, the Foreign Ministries of Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and endorsed by the U.S. Department of State launched the Tallinn Mechanism to deal with Ukraine’s cyber support in the civilian sector. The Tallinn Mechanism will work in parallel with an IT coalition dedicated to solving Ukraine’s cyber problems in the military sphere.
