Romania reports deflation for the first time in two years

Annual inflation has decreased this June to 7.93 against 8.41 percent the previous month, according to data coming from the National Statistics Institute (INS). It is for the first time in the past two years when Romania has reported deflation, the consumer price index going down by 0.3 percent in June compared to May.  

Overall, food products decreased by 1.34 percent in June compared to May while non-food products went up by 0.19 percent. The most considerable price decreases were reported by vegetables and canned vegetables (-11.08 percent), especially potatoes (-11.94 percent) and citruses and exotic fruit (-2.32 percent).
