Romania ranks 114th in KidsRightsIndex, between Bangladesh and Senegal

Romania is placed on the 114th position in the global ranking on Children’s Rights, with the lowest score recorded in the child rights environment category.

The ranking on the children’s rights foundation KidsRights and Erasmus University Rotterdam maps how countries adhere to and are equipped to improve the rights of the child.

Norway is 2018’s number one on children’s rights, followed by Iceland (2), Portugal (3), Spain (4), Switzerland (5), the Netherlands (6), Finland (7), Germany (8), France (9) and Slovenia (10). Worst performing countries overall in the Index are Sierra Leone (182), Afghanistan (181), Chad (180), Democratic Republic of the Congo (179), Equatorial Guinea (178), Central African Republic (177), Guinea-Bissau (176), Papua New Guinea (175), Eritrea (174) and The United Kingdom (173).

Romania is placed between Bangladesh (113) and Senegal (115).

The KidsRights Index exists of 5 domains:

  1. Right to Life
  2. Right to Health
  3. Right to Education
  4. Right to Protection
  5. Enabling Environment for Child Rights

“The KidsRights Index provides an overview of country performance on each of the five domains and is a basis for making concret recommendations to countries on how to improve. The KidsRights Index includes a total of 16 quantitative and 7 qualitative indicators which, when available, are systematically rated in the same way for all countries,” said the association.
