Romania ranks third among the cigarettes producers in the European Union, with 15 percent of the total production, Eurostat data show.
Germany was Europe’s top producer in 2016, with 32 percent (168 billion cigarettes) of the EU total production.
Poland ranked second, with 99 billion cigarettes produced in 2016 (19 percent of the EU total) and Romania third (77 billion, 15 percent).
Greece (31 billion), Portugal (27 billion) and Bulgaria (21 billion) each had a share of around 5 percent of the EU’s total production, according to Eurostat.
