Romania has 4000 potential clients for Private Banking services, according to Sorin Mititelu, executive retail segment management division, BCR. This statement was made, last week, during a conference on private banking organized by Evensys.

Mititelu mentioned that this estimate is based on official data from the NBR (National Bank of Romania), showing that 6000 people have deposits exceeding EUR 200,000, but only 4000 have the possibility to invest in other assets.

The BCR representative added that Romania is a market with potential in the private banking sector, as the average deposit in this segment is EUR 300,000. In Romania, there are clients with deposits that exceed EUR 5 million. Based on official figures, the total asset value owned by Romanian residents, that accessed Private Banking Services abroad, is approximately EUR 1 billion.

Based on the 4000 potential clients with term deposits, which own 10 percent of their financial assets in other products, together with the estimate value of international investments made by Romanian residents, Mititelu stated these 400 clients would own financial assets totaling EUR 4 billion.

The revenue generated from the Private Banking activity would be EUR 20 million, with the involvement of maximum 75 Private Banking Managers.

BCR has 5 private banking dedicated premises. One is in Bucharest, while the rest are in Brasov, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi and Cluj.
