Romania comes first in EU based on honey production

Romania is on the first place in the European Union for honey production, benefiting of 10 percent of the EU allocated funds, according to the centralized data at European level.

According to the European Commission, regarding the national programs of apiculture during 2013-2015, Romania registered at the end of 2015 the highest honey production from EU.

Romania produced in 2015, 35,000 tonnes of honey, compared with 20,000 tonnes in 2014. On the next places are Spain, with 32,000 and Hungary with 30,700 tonnes.

For the apiculture years 2014 and 2015, for every year EU offered programs of apiculture support, a total of EUR 66.2 million: EUR 33.1 million from EU budget and EUR 33.1 million from the national budget of the state members.

Out of the EUR 33.1 million from EU, the countries with the highest absorbed funds are Spain (16 percent), France (11 percent) and Romania with 10 percent.

The member states with the highest number of behives get the highest share of the EU funds. In the apiculture year 2013, 2014 and 2015, Spain owned the highest number of behives, benefiting from the highest part of the EU funds.

The most five expensive member states with the highest number of behives (Spain, France, Greece, Romania and Italy) received approximately half of the total funds of EU for the apiculture year 2013, 2014 and 2015.

According to the data supplied by the programs for 2014-2016, in Europe there were approximately 16 million behives.
