REWE Romania has finalised the process of renting out commercial galleries in Braila, Bucharest, Targoviste, Buzau and Ploiesti.

In the new format, Penny Market stores take up about 40 percent of the total gallery surface, while the rest of the space, around 10,000 sqm, is occupied by partners: Decathlon, Deichmann, Hippoland, Jysk, Pepco, Takko, TXM, Zoocenter.

Clients now benefit from the first integrated shopping experience, being able to find non-food items, clothing, interior design items, toys, home and kitchen products or gifts in the same place.

Daniel Gross, general manager REWE Romania: “With each project we develop we try to get closer to our customers. The new format allows us to do that both through our own stores as well as through giving access to our partners’ stores. We have strong brands next to us, which bring complementary offers to our customers and offer them a unique shopping experience. Each commercial gallery has meant an investment of around RON 5 million, along with the investment of each renter”.

The rental transactions were brokered by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox, the company which assisted REWE Romania throughout the entire reconfiguration process of the former XXL Mega Discount stores.

The new shopping centres have a new design, completely upgraded, which combines the presence of a staple store – Penny Market – with stores from other commercial partners. The process of occupying the commercial spaces is part of REWE’s strategy of opening up to clients by developing the shopping experience, out of the desire to provide them with more than just a hypermarket.

This has not been the only project finalised by the company for developing their customers’ shopping experience. This year 51 stores were remodelled as Future Stores and, recently, Penny became the only retailer with an ISO 50 001 certification in the energetic management of stores, storage spaces and central headquarters, thus being a leader in energy efficiency on the local market and setting the standard in services offered to customers.
