Public procurement reform will align Romania to European standards, says CDR

The Coalition for Romania’s Development (CDR) stated that the new laws concerning public procurement that have come into force recently will help Romania align with European standard.

Law 98/2016 on public procurement, Law 99/2016 on the procurement sector, Law 100/2016 on concessions for works and services concessions and Law 101/2016 on remedies and redress are “an essential first step in implementing a long-awaited reform, with a direct impact on a more transparent public spending, efficient selection and implementation of projects, on quality and reducing corruption,” the CDR shows. Though the deadline by the European Commission has been surpassed, members of the coalition say a swift implementation will help bring our country up to speed.

“The adoption of Law 98 package comes very late, after a parliamentary process extended beyond the deadline for transposition by the Directives of the European Commission. We are confident that the implementation of the new legislation will be firm and consistent, so that positive effects can be generated and multiplied rapidly in society, for citizens,” the statement reads.

The CDR comprises 45 organizations or associated members such as AmCham Romania, the Foreign Investors’ Council (FIC), the Association of Romanian Businesspeople (AOAR), the Romanian Business Leaders association (RBL), chambers of commerce and commercial representations of EU members states, the US and Canada.
