Social Democratic Party (PSD) head Liviu Dragnea said he would announce on Wednesday, or possibly Thursday, the party’s proposal for the position of prime minister, after consultations with President Iohannis.
“I will announce this on Wednesday,” Dragnea said, adding that he will not nominate any of the names that were mentioned at TV stations of late. But I will make a decision after first consulting with my fellow colleagues and, of course, with Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) colleagues, that takes into account my only wish to put into practice the much awaited governing program. (…) I saw lists at several TV stations and, as usual in such situations, it won’t be any of those who appeared on TV,” he said. “There are no lists, because I do not bring lists to Cotroceni, we don’t go there to negotiate, we will be very civilized and will make a proposal after we consider [it] very, very well,” Dragnea told TV.
The PSD head said he finds it very difficult to believe that the head of state will not accept the PSD-ALDE nomination, namely that “he will not respect the popular vote as well as the wish of Romanians to enter a period of political stability and of economic growth,” he said, adding that “conflict does not help anyone.”
Liviu Dragnea himself is not eligible for the position of PM, as he has to his name a suspended sentence for voter fraud.
