Dacia, Nokia, Honeywell and Petrom were Romaniaaa‚¬a„¢s main exporters last year, says the Economy Minister

Romania’s exports grew by 28.1 percent last year, amounting to EUR 37.25 billion, according to a press release from the Ministry of Economy. The bulk of the exports, 42.4 percent, was represented by cars and car parts (12 percent). The top of the most important Romania exporting companies to the EU is led by Automobile-Dacia, Nokia Romania, Honeywell, OMV Petrom and Daewoo-Mangalia while outside the EU, the top is lead by Arcelormittal Galati, Rompetrol Rafinare, Nokia Romania, Renault Industrie Roumaine and Automobile Dacia.

“The constant growth rate of exports for the past 14 months and also that of industrial production for the past 6 months has led to the full recovery of the EUR 4.6 billion loss registered by exports in 2009,” said ministry representatives adding that the export registered surpassed the “record level posted in 2008”.

Romania tripled its exports to Canada, and registered significant increases in exports to Turkey (76.8 percent), Japan (74.7 percent), Russia (62.1 percent), USA (61 percent), Ukraine (53 percent), Mexico (51 percent), South Korea (49.3 percent), and China (45.1 percent).

Romania’s also registered higher exports to Armenia (511 percent), Azerbaijan (112.5 percent), Kazakhstan (66.86 percent), South Africa (99.5 percent), Libya (50.1 percent), Vietnam (74.8 percent) and Brazil (61.6 percent).

On the other hand, imports went up by 19.99 percent last year amounting to EUR 46.71 billion. Most of the imports came from Germany, Italy, Hungary, France and China which were the origin countries for 48 percent of the imports to Romania. According to the ministry imports consisted of investment good or industrial components (66.2 percent), energy (10.1 percent), raw materials and other materials (16.7 percent) and agricultural products (6 percent).
