Price tags on eMAG.ro get tangled up, the company takes responsibility and bears costs

Due to interconnection problems between internal servers and data centers which led to the lack of synchronizing in the update mechanisms, the sale prices for 463 products posted on the IT&C retail site eMag.ro were tangled up. Thus, some products could be bought for a price that was lower than their real value, while others at a higher price than their real value.

eMAG announced that clients who ordered products at lower prices than the normal offer, will be delivered products at exactly those prices while in the case of those who ordered at higher prices, their orders will be updated at the correct price. “The deliveries will be made depending on the available stock and in the sequence in which we received the orders, following normal procedure,” said Radu Apostolescu, marketing manager of eMAG.

An initial estimation of price differences caused by the technical errors shows that the company will have to cover costs of approximately EUR 31,000 (RON 132,000).

The technical error led to the re-synchronizing of all the systems, which made the site unavailable for more than an hour.
